The Line: Boston Red Sox -200 / Seattle Mariners +185 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up Saturday from historic Fenway Park, the Seattle Mariners and the Boston Red Sox will be meeting up to continue their MLB series.
In the Friday opener, Boston mounted a crazy comeback with nine unanswered runs and won 14-10.
For Saturday’s matchup, the Mariners will be sending out RHP Mike Leake. Across 92.2 innings and a 7-4 record this year, Leake has a 4.47 ERA with 55 Ks and 21 BBs.
The Mariners’ leading hitter entering this set was Jean Segura, with 99 hits, 52 runs and 44 RBI. On Friday, Nelson Cruz put up two homers and seven RBI.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re going with Eduardo Rodriguez on Saturday. In his 77.2 innings and 9-1 mark this season, Rodriguez has a 3.59 ERA with 90 Ks and 24 BBs.
Boston’s top hitter this year is JD Martinez, with 86 hits, 48 runs, 22 homers and 55 RBI. In the opener, Martinez ripped a homer with four hits, three runs and five RBI.
The Mariners are 10-2 in their last 12 Saturday games and 7-3 in their last 10 in game two of a series. Seattle is also 7-1 in Leake’s last eight starts and 4-1 in his last five starts with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 13-3 in their last 16 Saturday games and 5-0 in Rodriguez’s last five starts with five days’ rest. Boston is also 19-7 in Rodriguez’s last 26 starts and 16-5 in his last 21 home starts.
Leake had a good run of quality starts going for a while there but then gave up five earned on eight hits in 6.0 innings his last time up—against the Sox, incidentally. As for Rodriguez, he hasn’t given up more than two earned in a start since May 15 and has won his last six games. I’m going to stick with the Red Sox for the win here.
