|Date & Time||Sunday June 24, 2018, 1:05 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Boston Red Sox -250 / Seattle Mariners +229 --- Over/Under: 8
The Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox meet Sunday in MLB action at Fenway Park.
The Seattle Mariners could use another victory after losing six of their last nine games. The Mariners have scored 20 runs in their last three games and five or more runs in eight of their last 13 games. The Seattle Mariners have won six of their last eight games when scoring more than three runs. Jean Segura leads the Mariners with 99 hits and 44 RBI while Dee Gordon and Mitch Haniger have combined for 156 hits and 76 RBI. Marco Gonzales gets the ball, and he is 7-4 with a 3.80 ERA and 74 strikeouts this season. This will be Gonzales’ first career game against the Red Sox.
The Boston Red Sox also need a win after losing five of their last eight games. The Red Sox have allowed 19 runs in their last three games and four or more runs in five of their last eight games. The Boston Red Sox have lost five of their last eight games when allowing more than two runs. Offensively, J.D. Martinez leads the Red Sox with 92 hits and 60 RBI while Andrew Benintendi and Mookie Betts have combined for 161 hits and 89 RBI. Chris Sale gets the ball, and he is 6-4 with a 2.74 ERA and 140 strikeouts this season. Sale is 5-1 with a 2.09 ERA and 85 strikeouts in his career against the Mariners.
The Mariners are 4-1 in their last 5 Sunday games, 5-1 in Gonzales' last 6 starts with 4 days of rest and 5-1 in Gonzales' last 6 starts. The Red Sox are 22-6 in their last 28 during game 3 of a series, 10-3 in their last 13 Sunday games and 1-4 in Sales last 5 starts. The Mariners are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Boston and the under is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings.
Everybody knows what Sale brings to the table, and he should be a favorite. However, the line shouldn't be this massive, especially given the Red Sox struggles this week and the fact they've lost six of the last 10 games in which Sale has pitched. If you're laying these massive prices on Sale this season, you're in the hole. The Seattle Mariners are a team that hits very well and can easily beat anybody with their offense alone. And while Gonzales doesn't have Sale stuff, he has allowed three or less runs in six of his last seven starts. In terms of value, the Mariners are one of the better bets on Sunday's card.
