Boston Red Sox -135 / Tampa Bay Rays +125 O/U: 8.5
The Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox will meet up on the MLB diamond Friday to kick off their series.
The Rays will be sending out Charlie Morton for the start on Friday. Over his 26.2 innings and 2-0 record this year, Morton has a 3.38 ERA with 34 Ks and 12 BBs.
Leading the offense for Tampa Bay this year so far is Tommy Pham, who is sitting on 28 hits, 12 runs, four homers and 10 RBI. Austin Meadows isn’t far behind with his 26 hits, 11 runs, six homers and 19 RBI.
Over on the Red Sox’ side, they are going with Josh Smith in the start Friday. This will be Smith's first big-league outing since 2017 with Oakland.
Boston just finished up a set against the Tigers, falling in the first two games but getting a win Wednesday. On Thursday in the finale, the Red Sox came away with a series tie by banging out a 7-3 victory.
Tampa Bay is 6-1 in their last seven in game one of a series and 16-5 in their last 21 road games. The Rays are 44-20 in their last 64 overall and 0-4 in their last four versus the AL East.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 61-29 in their last 90 versus the AL East and 2-6 in their last eight in game one of a series. The over is 6-2 in Boston’s last eight Friday games and the under is 5-2 in their last seven versus the AL East.
Record-wise, Tampa has gotten off to a relatively hot start—especially when compared to a defending champion Boston squad that’s still not that close to .500 yet.
Morton saw the Red Sox in his last outing, and he turned in five earned on five hits in 6.0 innings for a no-decision. It would be Morton’s first start this year allowing more than two earned. I think he gets a little revenge here and helps Tampa get a win.
