The Line: Boston Red Sox -165 / Tampa Bay Rays +150 --- Over/Under: 9
We have some AL East division action on Friday, as the Tampa Bay Rays head to Fenway to kick off a three game set against the Boston Red Sox in MLB action.
The Tampa Bay Rays will look for an upset to stay hot after winning their last six games, including a 9-5 win in the finale of their shortened series against Baltimore. Wilson Ramos led the Rays with three RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a home run, while C.J. Cron added a homer and two RBIs. Joey Wendle added a double and an RBI while Daniel Robertson and Mallex Smith added runs on the board of their own as well. Carlos Gomez and Brad Miller each went 2 for 5 with a double as well in the winning effort for Tampa Bay. Chris Archer got the win, improving to 2-1 this season after allowing four runs on eleven hits while striking out seven over 5.1 innings of work. Blake Snell will start game one and is 3-1 with a 2.54 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. In his career, Snell is 1-3 with a 4.62 ERA and 19 strikeouts against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will look to build some steam after closing their series against Toronto with a pair of one run victories, including a 5-4 win on Thursday. J.D. Martinez went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, while Andrew Benintendi went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Rafael Devers added an RBI of his own to round out the scoring for Boston in the win. Hanley Ramirez went 2 for 3 while Eduardo Nunez and Brock Holt each added a double in the victory as well. Chris Sale got the win to improve to 2-1 this season after giving up three runs on four hits while striking out four over six innings of work. Craig Kimberly closed out the 9th for his 7th save of the year. Drew Pomeranz will get the nod in game one and is 0-0 with a 7.36 ERA and 7 strikeouts this season. In his career, Pomeranz is 4-2 with a 3.59 ERA and 53 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 6-0 in their last 6 games overall and 11-5 in Snell’s last 16 starts while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 road games. Boston is 10-2 in Pomeranz’s last 12 division starts and 35-16 in their last 51 games overall while the over is 4-1 in Pomeranz’s last 5 home starts. Tampa Bay is 0-4 in Snell’s last 4 starts against Boston.
Tampa Bay hasn’t had much luck with Snell on the bump against the BoSox, but he’s been very good so far this season, and if we’re being honest, Pomeranz wasn’t very good in his season debut, failing to make it out of the 4th inning. The Rays are hot right now, and even on the road I think they’re worth taking a shot on Friday to steal a win to open the series. Give me the Rays here.
