The Line: Boston Red Sox / Tampa Bay Rays --- Over/Under:
We have some AL East MLB action on Sunday as the Tampa Bay Rays take on the Boston Red Sox from Fenway Park.
The Tampa Bay Rays will be looking to avoid a second consecutive series sweep and snap a 7 game losing streak in the process after a 10-3 loss in game two on Saturday. Brad Miller went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs while Denard Span went 2 for 4 with an RBI to finish off the scoring for the Rays in the loss. Joey Wendle went 2 for 3 with a double of his own and Carlos Gomez added a base hit as well to round out the offense for the Rays in defeat. Jake Faria took the loss after giving up eight runs on five hits while walking five over 1.2 innings of work to fall to 0-1 this season. Andrew Kittredge will start the finale and is 0-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 2 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kittredge is 0-2 with a 2.35 ERA and 3 strikeouts against Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will look to finish off the sweep after taking the first two games of the set, including their game two win on Saturday. Xander Bogaerts led the BoSox with 6 RBIs, going 2 for 4 with a grand slam and a double. J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers each added a home run and two RBIs to round out the scoring for the Red Sox in the win. Mookie Betts and Eduardo Nunez each added a double while Hanley Ramirez chipped in a base knock of his own in the win. Rick Porcello got the win after giving up all three runs on six hits while striking out seven over 7.1 innings of work to improve to 2-0 this season. Eduardo Rodriguez will make his season debut and was 6-7 with a 4.19 ERA and 150 strikeouts last season. In his career, Rodriguez is 0-2 with a 6.57 ERA and 30 strikeouts against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is 0-7 in their last 7 games overall and 0-6 in their last 6 road games against a left-handed starter while the under is 11-5 in their last 16 games against a team with a winning record. Boston is 8-3 in Rodriguez’s last 11 home starts and 7-0 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 13-3 in Rodriguez’s last 16 starts against a team with a losing record. Tampa Bay is 0-5 in the lat 5 meetings between these two teams and 1-4 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Boston.
Rodriguez hasn’t had a ton of success against the Rays in his career, and normally I’m not a fan of siding with a pitcher making their season debut. However, It’s not like Rodriguez has missed a ton of action to start this year and if we’re being honest, I don’t think it matters who starts for Tampa Bay right now as the Rays are unbackable during this losing skid. I’ll side with Boston to get the sweep here.
