The Line: Boston Red Sox -129 / Tampa Bay Rays +119 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Boston Red Sox battle the rival Tampa Bay Rays in American League East action Wednesday night.
The Tampa Bay Rays will be looking to get back in the win column following a 2-0 defeat at Fenway Park on Tuesday night. Of course that will require some offense which was a non factor Tuesday and squandered a strong effort on the bump from Drew Smyly. Smyly gave up a single run on two hits including a solo homer over six frames which was still a losing effort. The Rays did threaten a few times but failed to push across any runs with eight hits with Steven Souza and David DeJesus going 2-4.econd year man Alex Colome gets the call to the mound on Wednesday night versus Boston. In his first outing at Baltimore Colome defeated the Orioles 2-0 with a three hit shutout over five innings while whiffing six.
The Boston Red Sox have been fading a bit over the past few weeks and need to turn things around which means building on Tuesday’s victory. The Red Sox have still dropped seven of eleven and were saved by their pitching on Tuesday with Rick Porcello tossing a gem. Porcello picked up the win with eight shutout innings through eight innings while striking out six with Alexi Ogando and Koji Uehara throwing scoreless innings. The offense posted five hits and walked three times with Mookie Betts supplying the runs with two solo jacks. Justin Masterson draws the start against Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Masterson threw the ball well last time out in a 3-2 loss to the Yankees with two runs given up on six hits and a trio of BB in six frames.
The under is 10-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 11 overall and is 10-1 in their last 11 road games. Boston are 2-8 in their last 10 Wednesday games and are 8-2 in Masterson’s last 10 home starts. The under is 19-7 in the last 26 meetings in Boston. It seems like the under and Tampa Bay go hand in hand but if Colome can give them six innings the plus money is tempting…
