The Line: Boston Red Sox +113 / Tampa Bay Rays -123 --- Over/Under: 9
The Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays face off on Tuesday as the bottom two teams in the American League East meet.
The Boston Red Sox ended last season by winning the World Series and this season they will end it playing to an empty stadium in Boston. The Red Sox are 31-44 at Fenway Park this year and 5-5 in their last 10 games. As a team the Red Sox are hitting a 24th ranked .242 with Brock Holt hitting .281, Dustin Pedroia hitting .278, and David Ortiz hitting .264. For Tuesday’s game the Red Sox start Clay Buchholz who has had a rough season going 8-9 with a 5.29 ERA and who is 2-1 with a 4.32 ERA in his last three starts.
The Tampa Bay Rays are six games under .500 which is no small feat considering at one point they had the worst overall record in baseball. The Rays are 39-36 on the road and 5-5 in their last 10 games. As a team the Rays are hitting .248 James Loney hitting .289, Ben Zobrist hitting .269, Yunel Escobar .257. For game one in Boston Tampa Bay start Alex Cobb who is 9-8 with a 2.82 ERA for the season and 0-1 with a 1.77 ERA in his last three starts.
Boston is 5-2 following an off day, 6-2 in game one of a series, and 1-4 in Buchholz’s last five home starts. Tampa Bay is 9-2 against a team with a losing record, 5-2 following a loss, and 1-4 in Cobb’s last five starts. Tampa Bay is 2-6 in their last eight games in Boston.
The pitchers should get the best of this one and my pick is going to be the under.
