MLB | Chicago Cubs (13-12) at St. Louis Cardinals (20-6)

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs face off on Wednesday at Busch Stadium on game three of their MLB series of the top two teams in the NL Central.

The St. Louis Cardinals continued their strong play on Tuesday beating the Cubs once again at home. Matt Carpenter hit a home run and Kolten Wong and Matt Holliday each had three hits as the Cardinals scored seven runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Tyler Lyons allowed six hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out seven over 4.1 innings to not factor in the decision as Mitchell Harris got the win and Trevor Rosenthal earned his ninth save. For Wednesday’s game the Cardinal s start Lance Lynn who has allowed 27 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 36 over 29.1 innings for a 1-2 record and a 3.07 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs have been competing for the top spot in the NL Central but have lost significant ground losing on Monday and Tuesday in St. Louis. On Tuesday Anthony Rizzo had three hits and Kris Bryant and Starlin Castro each had hits as the Cubs scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Hendircks allowed six hits and four runs while striking out one over 5.0 innings to not get a decision as Edwin Jackson took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Cubs start Jon Lester who has allowed 32 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 28 over 28.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 4.71 ERA.

St. Louis is 7-0 against a team with a winning record, 13-5 against a left-handed starter, and 29-11 in Lynn’s last 40 starts as a home favorite. Chicago is 6-2 on the road against a right-handed starter, 1-5 in their last six games, and 0-4 in game three of a series. Chicago is 8-21 in their last 29 games in St. Louis.

The total is set at seven but these games have ben offensive so I like the over here. I also have a strong play on the winner and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App. As always you can purchase my Premium Picks individually at Picks and Parlays.
