MLB | Cincinnati Reds (5-4) at St. Louis Cardinals (5-3)

The Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals begin a three-game series Friday night.

The Cincinnati Reds look for a win after losing four of their last five games. The Reds struggles start with a pitching staff that’s allowed five or more runs in three of their last four games. Although the offense hasn’t been much better lately, the Reds aren’t going to win many games if their pitching rotation doesn’t get going. Offensively, Joey Votto leads the Reds with 12 hits and nine RBI, while Todd Frazier and Jay Bruce have combined for 14 RBI. The Cincinnati Reds have lost six of their last eight road games dating back to last season. Johnny Cueto gets the nod, and he’s 0-1 with a 0.64 ERA and 14 strikeouts this season. Cueto is 5-7 with a 4.01 ERA and 62 strikeouts in his career against the Cardinals.

The St. Louis Cardinals look to stay red hot after winning four of their last five games. The Cards pitching staff has led the charge, allowing two or less runs in three of their last five games. The Cardinals have won nine of their last 11 games when allowing three or less runs. Offensively, Matt Carpenter and Jhonny Peralta have combined for 24 hits and Matt Holliday has five RBI. The St. Louis Cardinals once again look like a team that’s not going anywhere in the NL Central. Michael Wacha takes the hill, and he is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA and two strikeouts this season. Wacha is 2-1 with a 2.15 ERA and 26 strikeouts in his career against the Reds.

The Reds are 6-21 in their last 27 road games and 6-2 in Cuetos last 8 starts. The Cardinals are 40-18 in their last 58 home games and 5-1 in Wachas last 6 starts. The Reds are 19-44 in the last 63 meetings in St. Louis and 1-4 in Cuetos last 5 starts vs. Cardinals.

I find it tough to pick against Cueto, but the Cardinals have had success against him in the past, and they've been nearly unbeatable on their home field. I'm going with the home team here for the cheap price.

St. Louis Cardinals -120
