The Chicago Cubs and he Cincinnati Reds face off on Tuesday at Wrigley Field for game two of their series.
The Chicago Cubs have high hopes for the future and they showed those once again on Monday as they got the win over the Reds. Anthony Rizzo had two hits including a home run and Jorge Soler and Chris Coghlan each had hits as the Cubs scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Travis Wood allowed three hits and struck out four over 6.0 scoreless innings to not factor in the decision as Hector Rodon got the win to go to 4-4 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Cubs start Jake Arrieta who has won two of his last three decisions. For the season Arrieta has allowed 111 hits and 44 earned runs while striking out 144 over 140.2 innings for an 8-5 record and a 2.82 ERA.
The Cincinnati Reds never got their offense going on Monday as they lost in Chicago. Todd Frazier, Yorman Rodriguez, and Ramon Santiago each had hits as the Reds didn’t score on three hits. Starting pitcher Alfredo Simon allowed five hits and struck out three over 7.0 scoreless innings to not get a decision as Pedro Villarreal took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Reds start Johnny Cueto who has won his ast three starts. For the season Cueto has allowed 154 hits and 53 earned runs while striking out 220 over 222 innings for a 18-8 record and a 2.15 ERA.
Chicago is 8-3 in their last 11 home games, 3-8 in their last 11 games, and 8-3 in Arrieta’s last 11 home starts. Cincinnati is 7-26 in their last 33 road games, 1-5 against a team with a losing record, and 20-8 in Cueto’s last 28 starts. Cincinnati is 21-7 in their last 28 games in in Chicago.
