The Line: Chicago Cubs -230 / Detroit Tigers +212 --- Over/Under:
Up at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago Cubs will be finishing up their two-game MLB set.
In the Tuesday opener, the Cubs scored three runs in the fifth inning on the way to a comeback 5-3 victory.
For Wednesday’s game, the Tigers will be rolling out LHP Francisco Liriano. In his 67.2 innings and 3-4 record this year, Liriano has a 3.99 ERA with 52 Ks and 36 BBs.
Coming into this set, Nick Castellanos led the way for the Tigers on 104 hits, 45 runs, 13 homers and 53 RBI. On Tuesday, Castellanos had a hit and a run.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with Jose Quintana on Wednesday. Over his 85.2 innings and 6-6 record this year, Quintana has a 4.31 ERA with 80 Ks and 40 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Cubs this season is Javier Baez with 85 hits, 53 runs, 16 homers and 61 RBI entering this series. In the opener, Baez went 0-for-4 with three Ks.
The Tigers are 9-19 in their last 28 Wednesday games and 0-4 in their last four in game two of a series. Detroit is also 0-5 in Liriano’s last five road starts and 0-4 in his last four starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 8-2 in their last 10 in game two of a series and 2-5 in their last seven Wednesday games. Chicago is 4-0 in Quintana’s last four Wednesday starts and 11-3 in his last 14 home starts.
Liriano has been a little choppy lately, giving up 10 earned across his last three starts in 15.0 innings. As for Quintana, he’s surrendered seven earned on 16 hits over his last two starts in 10.1 innings. I’m not super-thrilled about either pitcher here, but all things considered I’m sticking with the Cubs.
