The Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago Cubs will meet up for a one-off game on Monday at Wrigley.

LA is coming off a weekend set versus the Mariners. The Angels fell Friday but took Thursday and Saturday’s games in that set. On Sunday in the finale, the LA offense came out strong with a big 13-3 win.

For the Monday game, the Angels will be sending out Trevor Cahill for the start. In his 53.1 innings and 2-5 record this year, Cahill has a 6.92 ERA with 43 Ks and 18 BBs.

Over on the Cubs’ side, they just finished up a weekend rivalry set versus the Cardinals. Chicago fell 2-1 Friday and 7-4 Saturday, then on Sunday in game three the Cubs dropped 2-1 again.

On Monday, the Cubs will be going with Jon Lester for the start. In his 52.2 innings and 3-4 mark so far, Lester has a 3.59 ERA with 50 Ks and 13 BBs.

The Angels are 1-4 in their last five Monday games and 1-4 in Cahill’s last five starts. LA is 1-5 in Cahill’s last six road starts and 0-4 in his last four versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 2-6 in their last eight Monday games and 5-1 in Lester’s last six interleague starts. Chicago is 29-14 in Lester’s last 54 home starts and 29-14 in his last 43 starts overall.

Cahill has lots of red ink on his stat sheet these days. He’s allowed four or more earned runs in six of his last eight starts and is coming off six earned in 4.1 innings in Oakland May 27.

As for Lester, he’s not doing so well either, with 16 earned runs in across his last three starts in a span of 14.0 innings.

This is just an ugly matchup on paper, and in cases like this I lean toward the home team but generally stay away otherwise. I’ll go Cubs; all the early action has been leaning heavily that way.

Pick:
Chicago Cubs -153
