Chicago Cubs -190 / Miami Marlins +180
The Miami Marlins and the Chicago Cubs will be finishing up their MLB series on Thursday.
In the Monday opener, the Marlins eked out a 6-5 win, then the Cubs evened it up with a 5-2 win Tuesday. On Wednesday, we had an 11-inning marathon as the Cubs finally secured a 3-2 victory.
For the Thursday game, the Marlins will be going with Jose Urena in the starting role. Over his 39.2 innings and 1-5 record this year, Urena has a 5.45 ERA with 29 Ks and 12 BBs.
The Marlins out-hit the Cubs 8-6 on Wednesday, but couldn’t get it done on the scoreboard. Miami’s top hitter in that one was Starlin Castro with three hits and one RBI.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with Kyle Hendricks in the start Thursday. In his 34.1 innings and 2-4 mark so far, Hendricks has a 3.93 ERA with 27 Ks and eight walks.
Chicago’s big victory on Wednesday came courtesy of Jason Heyward, who homered in the 11th inning. Anthony Rizzo also had a nice evening with two hits and a run.
The Marlins are 19-42 in their last 61 in game three of a series and 1-6 in their last seven Wednesday games. Miami is 5-2 in Urena’s last seven starts in game three of a series and 1-4 in his last five Wednesday starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 5-1 in their last six in game three of a series and 6-0 in Hendricks’ last six starts with four days’ rest. Chicago is 1-4 in Hendricks’ last five Wednesday starts and 7-2 in his last nine home starts.
Urena had a promising streak of three straight quality starts going, but lost it in his last appearance with 6.0 innings five earned and six hits versus Atlanta on April 3 in a loss.
As for Hendricks, he tossed a complete-game shutout of the Cardinals his last time up, but in the start prior to that he coughed up seven earned in 5.0 innings in Arizona. Still, I have to go Cubs here.
