The Line: Chicago Cubs -151 / Milwaukee Brewers +141 --- Over/Under:
The Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs hook up for game one of a mini two game NL Central division set from Wrigley Field in MLB action on Tuesday.
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to bounce back after losing the rubber match of their three game set with Atlanta following an 8-7 loss in the series finale on Sunday. Jesus Aguilar led the way, going 3 for 4 with a home run, a double and four RBIs. Starting pitcher Chase Anderson added two RBIs and Mike Moustakas added an RBI as well to round out Milwaukee’s scoring in the loss. Lorenzo Cain went 4 for 6 while Hernan Perez went 3 for 5 with a double. Ryan Braun and Erik Kratz each had two hits while Christian Yelich, Jonathan School and Manny Pina each had a base hit as well in the loss. Anderson gave up four runs on five hits while striking out four over four innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Dan Jennings ended up with the loss to fall to 4-4 this season. Jhoulys Chacin will start game one and is 11-4 with a 3.91 ERA and 109 strikeouts this season. In his career, Chacin is 3-4 with a 3.30 ERA and 39 strikeouts against the Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs will look to build some steam after winning the rubber match of their series with the Washington Nationals following a 4-3 walk-off win in the series finale on Sunday night. David Both was the hero with a walk-off pinch-hit grand slam while Albert Almora Jr. added a double. Anthony Rizzo, Jason Heyward, Kyle Schwarber, and Tommy La Stella each had a base hit as well in the winning effort. Cole Hamels gave up one run on one hits while striking out nine over seven innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Justin Wilson got the win to improve to 4-3 this season. Jose Quintana will start game one and is 10-8 with a 4.28 ERA and 105 strikeouts this season. In his career, Quintana is 4-1 with a 0.92 ERA and 46 strikeouts against Milwaukee.
Milwaukee is 0-4 in Chacin’s last 4 division starts and 1-6 in their last 7 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall. Chicago is 14-3 in Quintana’s last 17 home starts and 18-8 in their last 26 home games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games overall. Chicago is 4-0 in Quintana’s last 4 starts against Milwaukee.a
Quintana has struggled lately, giving up five or more runs in two of his last three starts. However, the Cubs have to be riding that wave of momentum after that walk-off grand slam on Sunday and while Quintana has struggled in his last couple starts, he’s owned the Brewers in his career, allowing just five earned runs in 49 career innings. Chacin has been solid for Milwaukee this season, but the Brewers continue to run hot and cold and the Cubs could use this series to make big strides in winning the division so I’ll side with the Cubs at home to draw first blood here.
