The Line: Chicago Cubs -130 / Minnesota Twins +120 --- Over/Under:
On Friday from Wrigley Field, the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago Cubs will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Twins are coming off a series against the White Sox. After losing the first two games, on Thursday Minnesota prevented the sweep with a 13-inning 2-1 victory.
For Friday’s game, the Twins will be going with RHP Jose Berrios. In his 103.0 innings and 8-5 record this year, Berrios has a 3.15 ERA with 109 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the Twins this year is Eddie Rosario, who came into the Sox finale with 93 hits, 54 runs, 17 homers and 50 RBI. On Thursday Rosario had one hit.
As for the Cubs, they just finished up against the Dodgers. Chicago lost two of the first three games in that set, then on Thursday the Cubs evened it out with an 11-5 win.
Chicago will be rolling out Mike Montgomery for the start on Friday. Across 61.0 innings and a 2-2 mark this season, Montgomery has a 3.39 ERA with 40 Ks.
Javier Baez is the Cubs’ leading hitter on the season, bringing 77 hits, 47 runs, 16 homers and 56 RBI into the Dodgers finale. On Thursday, Baez ripped three hits with an RBI and two runs.
The Twins are 6-1 in their last seven interleague road games and 16-6 in their last 22 interleague games. Minnesota is also 12-4 in their last 16 interleague games versus a team with a winning record and the over is 4-0-1 in the Twins’ last five during game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 6-1 in their last seven Friday games and 20-6 in their last 26 interleague games versus a team with a losing record. Chicago is also 14-6 in their last 20 interleague games and 29-14 in their last 43 in game one of a series.
Over his last eight starts, Berrios has posted a nice 2.05 ERA, and in his last appearance versus the Rangers, he struck out 12 batters. As for Montgomery, he’s got one choppy start and five good starts over his last six, so he’s pitching pretty well right now also. This should be a close game with a solid pitching matchup, and I’m going to give the Cubs a slight advantage. The play for me is probably going to be the under, though.
