The Oakland A’s and the Chicago Cubs will meet up on the MLB diamond Monday to begin their series.
Oakland played a pair versus the Cardinals this weekend. The A’s won Saturday 8-3, and in the Sunday game Oakland fell 4-2.
For Monday’s outing, the A’s are going with Chris Bassitt in the start. Bassitt is 7-5 this year with a 3.84 ERA and 96 Ks.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re fresh off a set versus the Brewers. Chicago won Friday 6-2 and Saturday 4-1. In the Sunday finale, the Cubs won 7-2.
In the Monday game, the Cubs will send out Kyle Hendricks for the opening start. Hendricks is 8-8 with a 3.07 ERA and 107 strikeouts this year.
The A’s are 18-8 in their last 26 in game one of a series and 13-6 in their last 19 Monday games. The over is 13-4 in the Athletics’ last 17 Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 1-4 in their last five Monday games and 8-2 in their last 10 interleague home games. Chicago is 19-8 in their last 27 versus the AL West and the under is 14-3-2 in the Cubs’ last 19 in game one of a series.
Bassitt has been good since coming back from the break, logging a 2-1 record, a 2.35 ERA and a .202 BA for opponents.
As for Hendricks, he’s been good as well, and is coming off seven shutout frames in a win over the Cardinals. I like Hendricks to do well here, but I’m taking Bassitt and the A’s for the win.
