The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs will be meeting up on the MLB circuit Monday to kick off their series.

The Phillies just finished up against the Rockies this weekend. Philadelphia managed to sweep that one, bagging wins 5-4, 2-1 and 7-5 in a trio of close games.

For the Monday game, the Phillies will be sending out Jake Arrieta for the start. In his 56.0 innings and 4-4 mark this year, Arrieta has a 4.02 ERA with 47 Ks and 23 BBs.

Over on the Cubs’ side, they just completed a set against the Nationals. Chicago split the first two games of that set 14-6 (win) on Friday and 5-2 (loss) on Saturday, then in the Sunday finale the Cubs eked one out 6-5.

For Monday’s opener, the Cubs are going with Yu Darvish in the starting role. Over 42.0 innings and a 2-3 record so far, Darvish has a 5.14 ERA with 55 Ks and 33 BBs.

The Phillies are 17-35 in their last 52 road games and 1-4 in Arrieta’s last five road starts. Philly is 1-4 in Arrieta’s last five starts and 0-4 in his last four Monday starts.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 9-3 in their last 12 in game one of a series and the under is 10-4 in their last 14 Monday games. The under is 5-2 in Darvish’s last seven home starts and 7-2 in his last nine starts versus a team with a winning record.

Following a stretch of six quality starts in seven tries, Arrieta has been a little sketchy lately. Over his last pair of outings, he’s given up eight earned on 12 hits in 11.0 innings.

As for Darvish, he had a couple of bad starts to kick off this month (six earned in 8.0 innings) but came back with two earned in 5.2 innings in Cincinnati his last time out.

This one’s kind of a coin-flip game since I’m not thrilled about either pitcher right now. That said, the Phillies have been pretty bad with Arrieta on the mound lately—especially on the road—so I’m going Cubs.
