The Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs will meet up in MLB activity on Tuesday.
In the Monday opener of this set, we had a 10-inning decision as the Phillies plated a run to eke out a 5-4 win.
For Tuesday’s game, the Phillies will be bringing out Zach Eflin in the start. Over his 56.0 innings and 5-4 record this year, Eflin has a 2.89 ERA with 45 Ks and nine walks.
The Phillies were out-hit by the Cubs 11-9 on Monday, but were more opportunistic in scoring runs. Cesar Hernandez put up three hits with two RBI to lead the team there.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with Jose Quintana in the start Tuesday. Over his 51.1 innings and 4-3 mark this season, Quintana has a 3.68 ERA with 50 Ks and 15 BBs.
Anthony Rizzo logged three hits for the Cubs offense in a pretty bouncy outing for the team, logging an RBI for his trouble as well.
The Phillies are 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series and 7-3 in Eflin’s last 10 Tuesday starts. Philadelphia is 2-9 in Eflin’s last 11 road starts and 1-5 in his last six in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 5-0 in their last five Tuesday games and 6-2 in their last eight in game two of a series. Chicago is 5-1 in Quintana’s last six Tuesday starts and 20-7 in his last 27 home starts.
Eflin had a string of three straight quality starts (and two complete games) snapped versus Milwaukee on May 16 with four earned on seven hits in 5.0 innings for a loss.
As for Quintana, he’s given up six earned over his last 11.2 innings on 10 hits and overall has been pretty solid lately.
Still, I like Eflin better here, and so long as he gets some support from his teammates he’ll be just fine. I’m going Phillies.
