The Line: Chicago Cubs -185 / Pittsburgh Pirates +174 --- Over/Under:
Up at Wrigley Field on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Pirates just finished up against the Reds this weekend. Pittsburgh won on Thursday and Friday but lost Saturday 7-4. On Sunday, the Pirates took a 5-0 shutout victory, out-hitting the Reds 11-1 on the day.
For Monday’s matchup, the Pirates are bringing out RHP Ivan Nova. In his two starts this year and 10.1 innings, Nova has a 6.10 ERA with seven Ks.
Coming out of the week, the Pirates’ top hitter was Josh Harrison with 11 hits, 10 runs and five RBI. In the Sunday game, Harrison managed a pair of hits and a run while Gregory Polanco hit a two-run homer.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they're fresh off a set versus the Brewers. Chicago won on Thursday and Saturday but lost Friday. In the Sunday finale, the Cubs took a win 3-0.
Chicago will be bringing out RHP Tyler Chatwood on Monday. In his 6.0 innings during his first start this year, Chatwood put up four hits and one earned.
Leading the way in hitting for the Cubs coming into this week was Kris Bryant with 12 hits, six RBI, two homers and five runs. In the Sunday game, Bryant whiffed 0-for-4 but Ben Zobrist managed a solo homer.
The Pirates are 4-1 in their last five during game one of a series and 9-4 in their last 13 Monday games. Pittsburgh is also 1-7 in Nova’s last eight starts and 1-4 in his last five starts in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 20-8 in their last 28 during game one of a series and 36-15 in their last 51 home games following a road trip of seven or more days. Chicago is also 35-16 in their last 51 Monday games and the under is 10-3-2 in their last 15 Monday games.
This should be a pretty interesting matchup, as both these teams have solid offenses. The key here will be the pitching matchup and how long each starter lasts. It could easily go either way but I’m leading toward the Pirates here.
