The Line: Chicago Cubs -180 / Pittsburgh Pirates +155 --- Over/Under:
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago Cubs will match up on the MLB diamond to continue their Wrigley Field series on Wednesday.
The Pirates managed a 5-1 win in the opener Monday, then in Tuesday’s game, Pitt kept it going with a 6-0 shutout.
For the Wednesday game, the Pirates will be sending out RHP Ivan Nova. In his 157.0 innings and 9-9 record this year, Nova has a 4.01 ERA with 111 Ks and 33 BBs.
Leading the way for the Pirates hitters is Starling Marte, who came into game two on 148 hits, 76 runs, 19 homers and 69 RBI. In game two, Marte had a hit and a run.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with Jose Quintana in the Wednesday game. Across 164.1 innings and a 13-11 record this year, Quintana has a 4.11 ERA with 150 Ks and 68 BBs.
Chicago’s top hitter is Javier Baez, who entered game two on 169 hits, 97 runs, 34 homers and 100 RBI. In game two, Baez had two hits.
The Pirates are 4-0 in their last four Wednesday games and 4-1 in their last five in game three of a series. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in Nova’s last five starts with four days’ rest and 5-2 in his last seven road starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 1-4 in their last five in game three of a series and 6-1 in Quintana’s last seven Wednesday starts. Chicago is 16-5 in Quintana’s last 21 home starts and 1-5 in his last six with four days’ rest.
Nova has been pitching pretty well lately. Over his last three starts, he’s got two earned on 10 hits in 16.1 innings. As for Quintana, he had a good run going before coughing up five earned in 5.0 innings against the White Sox his last time out. This should be a pretty fun pitching matchup, but I like Nova a little better so I’ll go Pirates.
