The Line: Chicago Cubs -114 / San Diego Padres +104 --- Over/Under:
The Chicago Cubs clash with the San Diego Padres at Wrigley field in Saturday MLB action.
The San Diego Padres made some offseason moves that we didn’t know what effect they would have. It’s been so far, so good with the Padres improving to 7-4 with a 5-4 series opening win at Wrigley Field on Friday for their sixth win in seven games. James Shields was charged with all four runs (three earned) on five hits and nine strikeouts over six innings to improve to 2-0 while Craig Kimbrel picked up his 4th save. Wil Myers cracked a two run homer while Will Middlebrooks connected on a three run jack in the 7th to erase a 4-2 deficit. Tyson Ross heads to the mound for the third time this season when he faces the Chicago Cubs Saturday. Ross held San Francisco to three runs on five hits and four BB over six frames in the Padres 6-4 victory.
The Chicago Cubs have already had a few late inning rallies but the shoe was on the other foot in the series owner as the San Diego Padres scored a come from behind victory. Starter Jason Hammel gave up four runs on seven hits through 6.1 innings pitched with the loss going to Brian Schlitter who served up a 7th inning bomb. The Cubbies offense totaled seven hits and walked three bases on balls with rookie 3rd baseman Kris Bryant going 0-4 with three strikeouts in his major league debut. Jorge Soler and Anthony Rizzo drove in runs while Jonathan Herrera scored twice.Kyle Hendricks gets the game two starting assignment versus visiting San Diego. Hendricks did not receive a decision in a 6-5 victory at Colorado in his season debut with five runs allowed on eight hits in 4.1 frames.
San Diego are 19-39 in their last 58 road games while the under is 7-1 in Ross’s last 8 Saturday starts and 32-13-1 in his last 46 on grass. The under is 6-3 in the Cubs last 8 games as favorite with Chicago going 5-14 in their last 19 Saturday games while the over is 11-4-1 in their last 16 Saturday games. You have to like what the Padres have done but only time will tell if the success continues and I’d like to see it continue for at least another day…
