San Diego Padres at Chicago Cubs
|Date & Time||Sunday July 21, 2019, 2:20 PM (EDT)|
Chicago Cubs -190 / San Diego Padres +165 O/U: 8.5
The San Diego Padres and the Chicago Cubs will match up on the MLB diamond to finish their series on Sunday.
The Cubs eked out a 6-5 victory in the Friday opener of this set. On Saturday, Chicago did it again with another 6-5 win.
For Sunday’s game, the Padres will be sending out Cal Quantrill in the start. Across 47.0 innings and a 2-2 record so far, Quantrill has a 4.21 ERA with 39 Ks and 14 BBs.
The Padres put up nine hits on Saturday. Manny Machado had a two-run homer there.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with Kyle Hendricks on Sunday. Over his 101.0 innings and 7-7 record this season, Hendricks has a 3.46 ERA with 90 Ks and 21 BBs.
Chicago posted 11 hits in the win Saturday. Javier Baez went off for a 3-for-3 line, a homer, three RBI and three runs to pretty much carry the team offensively.
The Padres are 36-75 in their last 111 Sunday games and 16-35 in the last 51 in game three of a series. San Diego is 2-6 in Quantrill’s last eight starts and 1-6 in his last seven on grass.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 4-0 in Hendricks’ last four starts in game three of a series and 10-4 in Hendricks’ last 14 home starts. Chicago is 0-4 in Hendricks’ last four starts and 0-4 in his last four versus a team with a losing record.
Since coming out of the pen, Quantrill has been a bit up and down, but the good news is that he logged a quality start in his last appearance: 6.0 innings, three hits and zero earned versus the Braves.
As for Hendricks, he’s coming off a quality outing as well (6.0 innings; two earned) but is 0-3 in his last four games and hasn’t won since June 9. Still, I’m probably a little more comfortable with Hendricks as opposed to Quantrill right now so I’m going Cubs.
