The Line: Chicago Cubs -102 / San Francisco Giants -108 --- Over/Under:
The Chicago Cubs and the San Francisco Giants face off on Tuesday at Wrigley Field for game one of their series.
The Chicago Cubs labeled this season as a rebuilding year from the outset so they can fall back on that for an explanation of their dreadful record. The Cubs are 28-31 at home, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they are. As a team the Cubs are hitting .238 with Starlin Castro at .286, Justin Ruggiano at .279, and Anthony Rizzo at .274. As a team the Cubs pitching staff has a ERA of 3.80 with the starters at 3.98 and the bullpen at 3.46. For game one against the Giants the Cubs start Tsuyoshi Wada who has won his last two decisions. For the season Wada has allowed 30 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out 30 over 34.1 innings for a 2-1 record and a3.15 ERA.
He San Francisco Giants are chasing the Dodgers in the NL West and if the season ended today they would be a Wildcard team in the National League. The Giants are 33-26 on the road, 4-6 in their last two games, and have won their last two. As a team the Giants are hitting .245 with Michael Morse hitting .286, Hunter Pence hitting .283, and Buster Posey hitting .280. As a team the Giants pitching staff has an ERA of 3.40 with the starters at 3.76 and the bullpen at 2.64. For game one against the Dodgers the Giants start Ryan Vogelsong who has pitched well in has last two starts. For the season Vogelsong has allowed 139 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 114 over 140.2 innings for a 7-8 record and a 3.71 ERA.
Chicago is 5-2 against the NL West, 17-8 in game one of a series, and 4-10 at home against a right-handed starter. San Francisco is 15-6 against a team with a losing record, 3-10 against the NL Central, and 8-1 in Vogelsong’s last nine road starts. San Francisco has won five of their last six games in Chicago.
This game looks close but I will just take the better team and that’s the Giants.
