The Line: Chicago Cubs -130 / St. Louis Cardinals +120 --- Over/Under:
Up at Wrigley Field on Wednesday, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs will be finishing up their MLB rivalry series.
Monday’s game of this set was postponed, but on Tuesday the Cardinals scored three times in the eighth inning on the way to a 5-3 win.
For the Wednesday game, the Cards will be sending out RHP Luke Weaver for the start. In his 17.1 innings and 2-0 record this year, Weaver has a 2.08 ERA with 17 Ks and five BBs.
Coming into this set, the Cardinals’ top hitter was Jose Martinez with 20 hits, five runs and 15 RBI. In the Tuesday game, Martinez whiffed 0-for-4.
Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with LHP Jon Lester on Wednesday. In his 14.1 innings and 1-0 record this season, Lester has a 4.40 ERA with 11 Ks and seven BBs.
Kris Bryant was the top Cubs hitter entering this series, and he brought 19 hits, nine runs, two homers and eight RBI with him. On Tuesday, Bryant went empty 0-for-4.
The Cardinals are 21-8 in their last 29 during game two of a series and 6-0 in Weaver’s last six road starts. St. Louis is also 5-1 in Weaver’s last six starts with four days’ rest and 10-2 in his last 12 starts.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are 8-2 in their last 10 Wednesday games and 7-2 in Lester’s last nine Wednesday starts. Chicago is also 37-17 in Lester’s last 54 home starts and 38-18 in his last 56 starts.
Weaver has come out of the gate pretty well, with just four earned over three starts. As for Lester, he’s had one good start and two shaky ones. If there’s ever a spot for the Cardinals to bag a win in this set, it’s here. I’m going with Weaver and St. Louis.
