MLB | St. Louis Cardinals (49-48) at Chicago Cubs (57-39)
Neville E. Guard-USA TODAY Sports

Up at Wrigley Field on Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs will be finishing up their lengthy weekend series.

Thursday the Cubs won 9-6, then Friday in a crazy game the Cards took an 18-5 win. In the doubleheader on Saturday, we had another split as the Cubs won 7-2 in the afternoon and the Cards took a 6-3 win in the nightcap.

For Sunday’s matchup, the Cardinals will be sending out RHP Miles Mikolas. In his 119.1 innings and 10-3 record this year, Mikolas has a 2.79 ERA with 83 Ks and 20 BBs.

The Cardinals’ top hitter this year is Marcell Ozuna, who came into the weekend on 97 hits, 39 runs, 10 homers and 51 RBI. On Saturday in the night game, Ozuna had one hit.

Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re going with Jose Quintana on Sunday. Over 97.2 innings and an 8-6 record this year, Quintana has a 3.96 ERA with 87 Ks and 45 BBs.

Tops in hitting for the Cubs this season is Javier Baez, who entered the weekend on 101 hits, 62 runs, 19 homers and 72 RBI. On Saturday, Baez put up an 0-for-3 line in game two.

The Cardinals are 7-3 in their last 10 in game five of a series and 6-1 in Mikolas’ last seven road starts. St. Louis is also 4-1 in Mikolas’ last five starts and 4-1 in his last five starts versus the NL Central.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 12-3 in Quintana’s last 15 home starts and 6-2 in his last eight starts. Chicago is also 6-2 in Quintana’s last eight Sunday starts and 5-2 in his last seven home starts versus a team with a winning record.

Following four straight quality starts, Mikolas stumbled a bit in his last outing with three earned in 4.0 innings versus the Reds. As for Quintana, he’s sitting on two straight quality starts, giving up two earned over 12.0 innings on eight hits. This should be a fun pitching matchup and a good way to end the series. I’m staying away from this one, but otherwise giving the Cubs a slight advantage.

Chicago Cubs -138
