The Line: Chicago Cubs +134 / St. Louis Cardinals -144 --- Over/Under:
The Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Tuesday at Wrigley Field for game two of their series.
The Chicago Cubs simply had no answers on Monday as they were pounded by the Cardinals while taking a one-sided loss. Anthony Rizzo, Jorge Soler, and Luis Valbuena each had hits as Cubs failed to score on four hits. Starting pitcher Travis Wood had a tough night allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out eight over 5.0 innings to take the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Cubs start Kyle Hendricks who is 7-2 with a 2.28 ERA for the season and 2-1 with a 3.44 ERA in his last three starts.
The St. Louis Cardinals got the win in Chicago on Monday as their lead in the NL Central remains at 2.5 games. Matt Holliday, Matt Adams, and Jon Jay each had two hits as the Cardinals scored eight runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Adam Wainwright allowed three hits and struck out eight over 7.0 innings to get his 20th win of the year. For Tuesday’s game the Cardinals start Shelby Miller who is 10-9 with a 3.68 ERA for the season and 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA in his last three starts.
Chicago is 5-12 in their last 17 games, 3-12 as an underdog, and 4-0 in Hendricks’ last four home starts. St. Louis is 5-1 in their last six games, 6-1 against a team with a losing record, and 4-1 in Miller’s last five road starts.
This is a rivalry game and here is where that factors in as I look for the Cubs to bounce back from Monday’s loss and turn the tables on the Cards.
