The Line: St. Louis Cardinals -120 / Chicago Cubs +110 --- Over/Under:
The Chicago Cubs battle the St Louis Cardinals in game number two of their doubleheader on Saturday.
The Chicago Cubs are nowhere near the postseason which has been the same old story in what might seem like forever for their fans. The Cubs have played well in stretches and I see some positives for this team but if they are to take the next step the offense has to provide more consistent scoring. The rotation has some new faces and has shown some potential but the reality is we probably won't know what the Cubs have until the present group can do until we see them for a full season. The Cubs give the game two start to Tsuyoshi Wada for his first career appearance against the St Louis Cardinals. Wada has enjoyed a solid start to his career with a 4-1 record and 2.56 ERA over 45.1 innings.
The St Louis Cardinals are associated with winning the National League Central and are right in the mix for capturing the division crown once again. The Cardinals have a strong combination of offense and pitching which means either unit can win games all by their lonesome. The Redbirds become an even bigger threat when the arms and bats are on the same page. Having said that I don't believe this is the strongest team the Cards have fielded and they appear more vulnerable then in recent memory. The bottom line is the division is there for the taking once again. Left hander Marco Gonzales is sheduled to be on the hill in the second game of their twin bill with the Chicago Cubs. In his three career starts Gonzales has gone 0-2 with an ERA just north of seven.
With two virtual unknowns on the mound this might not be the best betting opportunity. I'm going with the more experienced hurler and that's the only reason...
