MLB | Washington Nationals (59-56) at Chicago Cubs (66-48)
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Friday afternoon up at historic Wrigley Field, the Washington Nationals and the Chicago Cubs will be kicking off their MLB set.

The Nats are coming off a set against the Braves. After losing two of the first three games, Washington managed to even it out with a 6-3 win Thursday.

For the Friday game, the Nationals will be bringing out RHP Jeremy Hellickson. In his 78.1 innings and 5-2 record this year, Hellickson has a 3.56 ERA with 59 Ks.

Tops in hitting for the Nationals this year is Trea Turner. In Thursday’s game, Turner managed a 2-for-3 line with one walk, and he has 14 homers, 48 RBI and 69 runs on the season.

Over on the Cubs’ side, they’re coming off a set against the Royals. Chicago won the first two games by a combined 8-1 score but then got spanked Wednesday with a 9-0 shutout loss.

For Friday’s game, the Cubs are sending out RHP Kyle Hendricks. Across 132.2 innings and an 8-9 mark this year, Hendricks has a 4.07 ERA with 110 Ks and 34 BBs.

Javier Baez is the top Cubs hitter this season; he’s sitting on 125 hits, 72 runs, 25 homers and 88 RBI. Anthony Rizzo is second on the team with 47 runs, 17 homers and 74 RBI.

The Nationals are 4-0 in their last four in game one of a series and 4-1 in their last five versus the NL Central. The over is 4-0 in Washington’s last four in game one of a series and the under is 9-2 in their last 11 versus the NL Central.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are 4-1 in Hendricks’ last five starts and 3-7 in his last 10 Friday starts. Chicago is also 6-1 in their last seven versus the NL East and 16-7 in their last 23 home games.

Hellickson put up 5.2 innings with two runs allowed in his last start Saturday against the Reds, but he’s just 1-1 with a 7.59 ERA in two starts versus the Cubs during his career. Hendricks, meanwhile, is coming in with at least seven strikeouts in each of his last three games and seems pretty comfortable on the mound these days. I’m going Cubs here in what should be a good game.
