The Line: Chicago White Sox +110 / Baltimore Orioles -120 --- Over/Under: 9
Up at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox will be continuing their MLB series.
In the Monday opener, the Orioles eked out a 3-2 win despite getting out-hit by the Sox 10-5 on the evening.
For Tuesday’s game, the Orioles will be going with RHP Kevin Gausman. In his 55.2 innings and 3-3 record this year, Gausman has a 3.88 ERA with 48 Ks and 14 BBs.
Baltimore’s leading hitter entering play Monday was Manny Machado, way out front on 61 hits, 26 runs, 14 homers and 42 RBI. In the opener, Machado managed to rip a solo homer in the fourth.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re rolling with James Shields on Tuesday. Over 55.1 innings and a 1-4 mark this season, Shields has a 4.88 ERA with 36 Ks.
Coming into this series, Chicago’s leading hitter was Jose Abreu on 49 hits, 24 runs and 25 RBI. On Monday, Abreu had two hits and an RBI.
The Orioles are 16-35 in their last 51 during game two of a series and 9-23 in their last 32 Tuesday games. Baltimore is also 16-35 in Gausman’s last 51 road starts and 2-5 in his last seven Tuesday starts.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are 16-36 in their last 52 Tuesday games and 14-38 in their last 52 during game two of a series. The over is 4-1 in the Sox’ last five during game two of a series and Chicago is 10-29 in their last 39 overall.
Gausman had a pretty good run going until his last start, where he coughed up six earned on eight hits in 4.2 innings. Shields, meanwhile, is coming off his best outing of the year with 7.1 innings and one earned. I’m a little more confident in Gausman’s ability to bounce back than I am Shields’ to maintain, so I’m going Orioles here.
