Baltimore Orioles (72-52) at Chicago White Sox (59-67)
|Date & Time||Wednesday August 20, 2014, 8:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Chicago White Sox +124 / Baltimore Orioles -134 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Chicago White Sox and the Baltimore Orioles face off on Wednesday in Chicago for game three of their series.
The Chicago White Sox have struggled in the later innings of their games this season and we saw that same scenario again in their loss on Tuesday. Jose Abreu hit a home run and Alejandro De Aza and Conor Gillaspie each had hits as the White Sox scored one run on three hits. Starting pitcher Jose Quintana allowed eight hits and four runs while striking out three over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 6-10 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the White Sox start Hector Noesi who has won four of his last five decisions. For the season Noesi has allowed 121 hits and 58 earned runs while striking out 86 over 120 innings for a 7-7 record and a 4.35 ERA.
The Baltimore Orioles are trying to put away the AL East and they took another step in that direction beating the White Sox while their chasers were losing on Tuesday. Nick Hundley hit a home run and Adam Jones and Delmon Young had two hits each as the Orioles scored five runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Chris Tillman allowed three hits and a run while striking out nine over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 10-5 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Orioles start Wei-Yin Chen who has a loss and a no decision in his last two starts. For the season Chen has allowed 145 hits and 57 earned runs while striking out 102 over 136.1 innings for a 12-4 record and a 3.76 ERA.
Chicago is 0-5 in their last five Wednesday games and 4-0 in Noesi’s last four home stats. Baltimore is 11-4 in their last 15 games, 5-1 as a favorite, and 5-2 in Chen’s last seven starts. Baltimore is 7-2 in their last nine games against Chicago.
Noesi has been under rated but the bullpen in Chicago is just terrible and why I take the Orioles here.
