The Line: Chicago White Sox +180 / Boston Red Sox -192 --- Over/Under: 9.5
The Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox will meet up at Guaranteed Rate Field on Thursday to kick off their weekend “Laundry Series” in MLB action.
Boston just finished up against the Marlins this week, eking out an 8-7 win on Tuesday and on Wednesday the Red Sox came out swinging with 11 runs in the seventh inning on the way to a 14-6 win.
For the Thursday game, the Red Sox will be bringing out Rick Porcello. In his 163.2 innings and 15-7 record this year, Porcello has a 4.18 ERA with 164 Ks and 39 BBs.
JD Martinez leads the Red Sox’ formidable offense, coming into Wednesday with 162 hits, 98 runs, 38 homers and 110 RBI. In the Marlins finale, Martinez had a hit, a run and an RBI.
Over on the White Sox’ side, they just finished up against the Yankees. After splitting the first pair of games, on Wednesday Chicago won the series with a 4-1 victory.
Chicago will be going with Lucas Giolito on Thursday. Across 144.2 innings and a 10-9 record this year, Giolito has a 5.85 ERA with 103 Ks and 75 BBs.
The injured Jose Abreu still leads the White Sox in hitting with 129 hits, 67 runs, 22 homers and 78 RBI. On Wednesday, Ryan LaMarre ripped three hits with a homer and four RBI.
The Red Sox are 22-7 in their last 29 in game one of a series and 6-2 in their last eight Thursday games. Boston is 8-2 in Porcello’s last 10 starts on grass and 5-2 in his last seven road starts.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are 1-4 in their last five home games following a road trip of a week or more and 1-7 in their last eight Thursday games. Chicago is 7-1 in Giolito’s last eight starts and 6-1 in his last seven starts following a quality start in his last appearance.
Porcello has one quality start in his last four outings. In the other three, he’s allowed a combined 15 earned across 16.0 innings. As for Giolito, he’s sitting on three straight quality starts, allowing a total of seven earned in 19.0 innings. Boston is obviously in control here, but since the White Sox seem to play well behind Giolito this might not be a bad spot to try and sneak in a Chicago value pick.
