The Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox will match up to kick off a weekend rivalry set on Saturday in MLB activity.

The Cubs played four games against the Pirates this week. After dropping the first three games 18-5, 5-1 and 6-5, Chicago banged out a win 11-3 to avoid the sweep Thursday.

For Saturday’s game, the Cubs will be sending out Jon Lester in the start. Over his 88.0 innings and 7-6 record so far, Lester has a 3.89 ERA with 90 Ks and 20 BBs.

Over on the White Sox’ side, they’re coming out of a series versus the Tigers. Chicago took the first two games of that set 7-5 and 9-6, but lost on Thursday 11-5.

The White Sox are going with Lucas Giolito in the start on Saturday. Over his 96.0 innings and 11-2 mark this season, Giolito has a 2.72 ERA with 115 Ks and 33 BBs.

The Cubs are 6-2 in their last eight after an off day and 11-4 in their last 15 versus the AL Central. Chicago is 7-3 in their last 10 Saturday games and 1-4 in their last five overall.

Meanwhile, the White Sox are 5-0 in their last five after an off day and 5-1 in their last six in game one of a series. Chicago is 5-2 in their last seven overall and 13-6 in their last 19 home games.

Lester has been pretty decent over his last three starts. Against the Braves he put up 6.0 innings with five hits and zero earned, and in the other two he posted three earned in each.

As for Giolito, he stumbled a bit in a two-start span with nine earned in 10.0 innings but got back on track his last time up and one-hit the Twins while he was up, with zero earned in 5.0 innings.

Cubs/Sox games are always a treat, and this year seems more evenly-matched than most. I’m going with Giolito and the Sox in the opener, though.
