The Line: Chicago White Sox -143 / Detroit Tigers +133 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Sunday afternoon from Guaranteed Rate Field, the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox will be wrapping up their MLB series.
Back on Thursday, the Tigers took a high-flying 9-7 victory in the opener of this set. On Saturday, Detroit kept it going with a 6-1 win.
For the Sunday game, the Tigers will be bringing out RHP Mike Fiers. In his 153.1 innings and 8-10 record last year, Fiers put up a 5.22 ERA with 146 Ks and 89 earned runs.
Heading into the weekend, Nicholas Castellanos led the Tigers on 10 hits, eight runs and three RBI with 15 total bases. On Saturday, Castellanos managed one hit while Miguel Cabrera provided three RBI.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re going with Reynaldo Lopez on Sunday. In his debut, Lopez managed 6.0 innings with one earned on two hits in a no-decision.
Tops in hitting for the Sox heading into the weekend was Avisail Garcia with nine hits and five runs, while Jose Abreu and Yolmer Sanchez each had eight hits. On Saturday, Garcia had a hit and an RBI; Abreu had one hit.
The Tigers are 1-9 in their last 10 during game three of a series and 0-4 in their last four Sunday games. The over is 18-6-2 in the Tigers’ last 26 Sunday games and Detroit is 16-45 in their last 61 overall.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 7-1 in their last eight during game three of a series and 5-2 in their last seven Sunday games. Chicago is also 4-1 in Lopez’s last five starts versus the AL Central and 4-1 in his last five starts.
Lopez looked pretty good in his first start this year, and probably would have gotten the win with that effort on most days. This is a pretty good matchup this early in the season, and I expect another close game here. Still, I’m going White Sox with Lopez on the mound.
