The Line: Chicago White Sox -133 / Detroit Tigers +123 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up on Friday from Guaranteed Rate Field, the Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Tigers just finished up a set versus the Twins. After splitting the first two games, Detroit took a 3-1 win on Thursday.
The Tigers’ starter for the Friday game will be Mike Fiers. Over his 67.1 innings and 5-3 record this year, Fiers has a 4.01 ERA with 50 Ks and 14 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Tigers this year is Nick Castellanos with 84 hits, 32 runs and 34 RBI entering the Twins finale. On Thursday, Castellanos went 0-for-4.
Over on the White Sox’ side, they just played the Indians this week. After winning two of the first three games, on Thursday in the finale Chicago lost 5-2.
Making the start for the Sox on Friday will be Reynaldo Lopez. Over 77.1 innings and a 2-4 record this year, Lopez has a 3.26 ERA with 54 Ks and 34 BBs.
Jose Abreu leads the Sox in hitting this year with his 73 hits, 35 runs, 10 homers and 38 RBI entering the final Indians game. On Thursday, Abreu put up a two-run homer.
The Tigers are 3-9 in their last 12 Friday games and 0-4 in their last four in game one of a series. Detroit is also 4-0 in Fiers’ last four starts and 4-0 in his last four starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 4-9 in their last 13 Friday games and 3-8 in their last 11 in game one of a series. Chicago is 1-5 in Lopez’s last six starts in game one of a series and 2-5 in his last seven starts.
Over his last three games, Fiers has been pretty good with just four earned runs in a combined 18.1 innings. As for Lopez, he has four quality starts in his last five appearances, but the one outlier was pretty bad (seven earned in 2.2 innings). This should be a pretty good pitching matchup though, and a fun one to watch. I’ll give the Sox a slight edge but the under looks good too.
