The Chicago White Sox and the Detroit Tigers meet on Saturday afternoon for game one of their double header.
The Chicago White Sox knew coming into the season that this year had to potential to be difficult and on Friday we saw more of that difficulty as they were beaten by the Tigers in a one sided game. Jose Abreu and Adam Eaton had three hits each and Avisal Garcia had a hit as the White scored just once on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Scot Carroll just didn’t have nay answers as he allowed 10 hits and seven runs while striking out two over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-9 for the season. For Saturday’s game the White Sox start Chris Sale who has solid numbers but has been unable to earn a win in his last five stats. For the season Sale has allowed 103 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 165 over 142 innings for a 10-3 record and a 2.03 ERA.
The Detroit Tigers are battling for a post-season spot in the American League and they helped heir case on Friday soundly beating the White Sox. J.D. Martinez had three hits and Torii Hunter, Victor Martinez, and Ezequiel Carrera each had two hits as the Tigers scored seven runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Justine Verlander allowed nine hits and a run while striking out eight over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 12-11 for the season. For Saturday’s first game the Tigers start Max Scherzer who has won his last two decisions. For the season Scherzer has allowed 157 hits and 63 earned runs while striking out 209 over 181 innings for a 15-4 record and a 3.13 ERA.
Chicago is 1-5 in their last six games as an underdog, 1-6 in their last seven home games, and 7-3 in Sale’s last 10 home starts. Detroit is 5-1 in their last six games, 3-10 as an underdog, and 6-2 in Scherzer’s last eight road starts. Detroit is 6-2 in their last eight games in Colorado.
The White Sox have been terrible of late and even with Sale going they would be hard pressed to get the win here.
