The Detroit Tigers and the Chicago White Sox will be meeting up at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday to continue their MLB set.
In the Monday opener, the Sox took an epic win on a walk-off homer 4-2.
For Tuesday’s game, the Tigers will be sending out LHP Francisco Liriano. In his 107.0 innings and 3-9 mark this year, Liriano has a 4.96 ERA with 82 Ks and 62 BBs.
Nick Castellanos is the leading Tigers hitter this year, entering this series with 155 hits, 75 runs, 20 homers and 75 RBI. On Monday, Castellanos went 0-for-4.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re going with Lucas Giolito on Tuesday. Across his 151.0 innings and 10-9 record, Giolito has a 5.66 ERA with 111 Ks and 77 BBs.
Jose Abreu leads the Sox hitters this year, entering this set on 129 hits, 67 runs, 22 homers and 78 RBI. Abreu is still out hurt but Matt Davidson’s two-run homer in the ninth took care of business on Monday.
The Tigers are 19-39 in their last 58 in game two of a series and 7-21 in their last 28 Tuesday games. Detroit is also 3-9 in Liriano’s last 12 road starts and 1-4 in his last five starts.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 17-35 in their last 52 Tuesday games and 7-2 in Giolito’s last nine starts. Chicago is 4-9 in Giolito’s last 13 home starts and 4-0 in his last four starts in game two of a series.
In each of his last three games, Liriano has given up four earned runs for a total of 12 earned over 11.1 innings. As for Giolito, he’s given up two earned in his last pair of starts across a combined 13.1 innings and is sitting on four straight quality starts. I’m going to stick with Giolito and the Sox here.
