The Line: Chicago White Sox -115 / Kansas City Royals +105 --- Over/Under: 9
Up at Guaranteed Rate Field on Saturday, we’ve got MLB action coming between the Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox.
In the Friday opener of this set, The White Sox scored five runs in the first three innings on the way to a 9-6 victory.
For Saturday’s game, the Royals will be bringing out lefty Danny Duffy. In his 106.2 innings and 4-8 record this year, Duffy has a 4.89 ERA with 95 Ks and 50 BBs.
KC’s big bat this year is Whit Merrifield, who entered this set on 104 hits, 39 runs and 29 RBI. In the Friday opener, Merrifield had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
As for the Sox, they’re going with Reynaldo Lopez on Saturday. Across his 105.0 innings and 4-6 record this year, Lopez has a 3.77 ERA with 75 Ks and 47 BBs.
The Sox’ leading hitter coming into this series was Jose Abreu, with 89 hits, 42 runs, 12 homers and 51 RBI. On Friday, Abreu hit a solo homer.
The Royals are 2-9 in their last 11 during game two of a series and 0-4 in their last four Saturday games. KC is also 6-13 in Duffy’s last 19 starts on grass and 6-14 in his last 20 starts.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 15-37 in their last 57 in game two of a series and 0-6 in the last six Saturday games. Chicago is 1-5 in Lopez’s last six starts versus the AL Central and the over is 6-2 in their last eight in game two of a series.
Over his last four starts, Duffy has one stinker (six earned in 6.0 innings versus the Indians) and three quality outings (one earned in a total of 18.0 innings). As for Lopez, he’s been more consistent but not as sharp, with 13 earned over his last four starts. Duffy is prone to meltdowns here and there, but I think he’s got plenty of good stuff to keep the Sox in check. I’ll go Royals here.
