The Line: Chicago White Sox -138 / Kansas City Royals +128 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up from Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday, the Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox will be kicking off their MLB set.
The Royals are fresh off a set against the Blue Jays. After dropping two of the first three games, on Thursday Kansas City managed a win 6-2.
For Friday’s game, the Royals will be sending out Jakob Junis. In his 127.0 innings and 6-11 mark this year, Junis has a 4.82 ERA with 122 Ks and 37 BBs.
Tops in hitting for KC this season is Whit Merrifield, who entered Thursday on 136 hits, 56 runs and 38 RBI. In the Jays finale, Merrifield had two hits and an RBI.
As for the White Sox, they’re coming off a series against the Tigers. Chicago dropped the first game Monday but went on to win the other two games in that set.
James Shields will be coming out for the Sox on Friday. In his 157.0 innings and 4-14 record this year, Shields has a 4.41 ERA with 122 Ks.
Jose Abreu leads the Sox offense, and he’s sitting on 123 hits, 64 runs, 21 homers and 73 RBI. Yolmer Sanchez is second on the team with 111 hits, 43 runs and 45 RBI.
The Royals are 15-37 in their last 52 in game one of a series and 1-5 in their last six Friday games. KC is also 2-10 in Junis’ last 12 starts and 0-6 in his last six starts in game one of a series.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 8-20 in their last 28 in game one of a series and 1-5 in their last six home games. Chicago is also 1-4 in Shields’ last five starts and 2-6 in Shields’ last eight Friday starts.
After a rough patch of games last month, Junis is pitching better over his last two starts, with just two earned across 11.0 innings. As for Shields, you could say the same thing about him as he’s given up four earned over his last two starts in 13.0 innings. Shields’ numbers aren’t the greatest, but the Sox offense seems to be playing better lately so I’m going Chicago.
