The Line: Chicago White Sox / Los Angeles Angels --- Over/Under:
The Los Angeles Angels and the Chicago White Sox meet in the finale of their three game set from Guaranteed Rate Field in MLB action on Sunday.
The Los Angeles Angels will look to finish the series strong after logging a 12-3 win in game two on Saturday. Mike Trout led the charge, going 5 for 5 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs. Shohei Ohtani added a triple and three RBIs while Justin Upton, Kaleb Coward and Joe Hudson each added an RBI in the winning effort. David Fletcher and Andrelton Simmons each had two hits while Kole Calhoun, Jose Fernandez, Jefry Marte and Taylor Ward each added a base hit to round out L.A.’s offense in the win. Matt Shoemaker got the win to improve to 2-0 this season after allowing all three runs on seven hits while striking out four over five innings of work. Andrew Heaney will start game three and is 8-9 with a 4.16 ERA and 149 strikeouts this season. In his career, Heaney is 0-0 with a 2.31 ERA and 8 strikeouts against the White Sox.
The Chicago White Sox will look to bounce back and win the finale of the series after dropping game two on Saturday. Yolmer Sanchez, Avisail Garcia and Kevan Smith each had an RBI, with Sanchez going 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles while Smith added a two-bagger of his own. Yoan Moncada added a double while Daniel Palka and Tim Anderson each chipped in a base hit as well to round out Chicago’s offense in the losing effort. James Shields took the loss to fall to 6-16 this season after allowing six runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings of work. Reynaldo Lopez will start game three and is 5-9 with a 4.37 ERA and 122 strikeouts this season. This will be Lopez’s second career start against the Angels.
Los Angeles is 0-6 in their last 6 Sunday games and 6-14 in their last 20 games against a right-handed starter while the under is 7-1 in Heaney’s last 8 starts against the AL Central. Chicago is 4-0 in Lopez’s last 4 starts and 3-10 in their last 13 games against the AL West while the over is 17-4 in their last 21 game 3 matchups. Los Angeles is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings between these two teams.
The Angels’ offense came to play on Saturday, the problem is that Heaney has had trouble keeping crooked numbers off of the board, allowing four or more runs in five of his last seven starts. Meanwhile, the White Sox have won each of Lopez’s last four starts and Lopez has allowed two runs or less in five of his last seven starts. I’ll probably leave this game alone but if forced to pick I’d take a shot with the White Sox as I simply can’t trust Heaney.
