Chicago White Sox +103 / Miami Marlins -113 O/U: 9
The Miami Marlins and the Chicago White Sox will match up on the MLB circuit to continue their series Tuesday.
In the Monday opener of this set, the White Sox peppered in runs during the first six innings and went on to a dominant 9-1 victory.
For Tuesday’s game, the Marlins will send out Caleb Smith for the start. Across his 83.0 innings and 5-4 record this year, Smith has a 3.47 ERA with 101 Ks and 28 BBs.
Miami could only muster four hits on the night Monday. The lone run scored came courtesy of Jorge Alfaro, who had a solo homer in the second.
Over on the Sox side, they’re going with Dylan Covey in the start. Over 41.2 innings and a 1-5 mark so far, Covey has a 5.83 ERA with 24 Ks and 22 BBs.
Chicago had 10 hits on Monday and made the most of them. Jose Abreu had a great night with two hits, three RBI and three runs.
The Marlins are 1-4 in their last five in game two of a series and 5-2 in Smith’s last seven starts in game two of a series. Miami is 8-1 in Smith’s last nine starts versus a team with closing record and the over is 5-2-1 in their last eight Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 0-5 in Covey’s last five Tuesday starts and 2-8 in his last 10 home starts. Chicago is 6-21 in Covey’s last 27 starts and 4-16 in his last 20 with four days’ rest.
Smith has been pretty solid lately, with seven earned runs in 17.0 innings across his last three starts. He’s 2-0 in that time and both of those outings were quality starts.
As for Covey, he had some shoulder issues earlier this month and has been pretty sketchy in his last three appearances with eight earned in just 4.1 innings.
I’m going to have to go with the Marlins here.
