The Line: Chicago White Sox +185 / New York Yankees -200 --- Over/Under: 9
Up at Guaranteed Rate Field on Tuesday, the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will be meeting up on the MLB diamond.
In the Monday edition of this set, the Yankees offense got going in a 7-0 shutout win.
For Tuesday’s game, the Yankees will be going with lefty CC Sabathia. In his 107.2 innings and 6-4 record this year, Sabathia has a 3.59 ERA With 87 Ks and 35 BBs.
Heading into this set, the Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton led the team on 120 hits, 68 runs, 25 homers and 67 RBI. On Monday, Stanton plated a run.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re going with Reynaldo Lopez on Tuesday. Across 129.0 innings and a 4-9 record this year, Lopez has a 4.47 ERA with 90 Ks and 57 BBs.
The top hitter on the South Side is Jose Abreu, who entered this set with 114 hits, 60 runs, 19 homers and 63 RBI. In the opener, Abreu went hitless.
The Yankees are 16-5 in their last 21 Tuesday games and 5-0 in Sabathia’s last five Tuesday starts. New York is 2-5 in Sabathia’s last seven road starts and 2-5 in his last seven starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 19-39 in their last 58 in game two of a series and 7-23 in their last 30 Tuesday games. Chicago is also 1-4 in Lopez’s last five starts and 1-4 in his last five starts with four days’ rest.
Since the break, Sabathia hasn’t quite been himself. (And really, the entire Yankees team hasn’t been themselves either.) He allowed nine earned in 10.2 innings across two starts last month, and since then has given up four earned in 7.2 innings over two games. Sabathia certainly needs a strong outing here, and I think he’ll get it. I’ll go Yanks.
