The Line: Chicago White Sox +255 / New York Yankees -280 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Up at Guaranteed Rate Field on the South Side, the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will be finishing up their MLB set.
New York took game one of this set 7-0, then in the Tuesday game we had a marathon 13-inning experience as the Yankees finally pulled it out 4-3.
For Wednesday’s matchup, the Yankees will be sending out ace Luis Severino. In his 143.1 innings and 14-5 mark this year, Severino has a 3.08 ERA with 159 Ks and 36 BBs.
The Yankees’ lead hitter this year is Giancarlo Stanton, with 120 hits, 69 runs, 25 homers and 67 RBI entering game two. On Tuesday, Stanton hit a two-run shot.
Over on the Sox’ side, they’re going with Lucas Giolito on Wednesday. Across 120.2 innings and a 7-8 mark this year, Giolito has a 5.97 ERA with 77 Ks and 68 BBs.
Jose Abreu tops the White Sox hitters, entering game two on 114 hits, 60 runs, 19 homers and 63 RBI. On Tuesday, Abreu had three RBI and a two-run homer of his own.
The Yankees are 36-16 in their last 52 Wednesday games and 10-1 in Severino’s last 11 Wednesday starts. New York is also 14-3 in Severino’s last 17 starts with four days’ rest and 38-15 in his last 53 starts.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 16-35 in their last 51 Wednesday games and 4-9 in their last 13 in game three of a series. Chicago is also 4-0 in Giolito’s last four starts and 7-1 in his last eight starts in game three of a series.
Severino has been pretty un-Severino-like over his last four starts, with 20 combined earned runs between them in 20.0 innings. Giolito has been pitching pretty well on the other side lately, with four quality starts in his last five attempts. I’m going to go with Severino bouncing back here against a weak Sox offense, as the Yankees need to step it up if they’re going to make the playoffs, much less contend for the AL East. Severino also needs to get going like the ace he is again, and it absolutely has to start right now. I’ll go New York here, but in reality the price is probably going to be too high for any practical action on it.
