The Line: Chicago White Sox +120 / Oakland Athletics -130 --- Over/Under: 9
Friday afternoon up at Guaranteed Rate Field, the Oakland A’s and the Chicago White Sox will be facing off in the first game of a doubleheader.
Originally the opening game for this set was scheduled for Thursday, but rain in the forecast pushed it back to Friday. Game 2 will get going a little while after this one is through.
For the afternoon game on Friday, the A’s will be going with Sean Manaea in the start. Over his 93.2 innings and 6-6 record this year, Manaea has a 3.56 ERA with 68 Ks.
Tops in hitting for the A’s coming into this set is Jed Lowrie with 82 hits, 30 runs, 11 homers and 47 RBI. Marcus Semien isn’t too far behind him with 78 hits, 43 runs and 29 RBI thus far.
As for the White Sox, they’re sending out James Shields on Friday afternoon. Over his 95.1 innings and 2-8 record this year, Shields has a 4.63 ERA with 64 Ks.
Jose Abreu is the leading Sox hitter this season, with 79 hits, 36 runs, 11 homers and 42 RBI entering this set. Yolmer Sanchez is second on the team with 68 hits, 28 runs and 29 RBI in that span.
The A’s are 6-2 in their last eight Friday games and the over is 9-1-1 in Oakland’s last 11 Friday games. The A’s are 1-5 in Manaea’s last six Friday starts and 4-9 in his last 13 starts with five days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are 4-10 in their last 14 Friday games and the over is 8-2-1 in their last 11 Friday games. Chicago is also 21-47 in their last 68 overall and 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series.
Back on Saturday, Manaea put up his first win since May 14 with three runs on four hits over 6.0 innings against the Angels. As for Shields, he’s put up at least six innings in 11 straight starts, logging eight quality starts in that time. Shields has been a little generous with the homers lately but I’m still on the Sox here.
