The Line: Chicago White Sox +113 / Pittsburgh Pirates -123 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up Wednesday from Guaranteed Rate Field, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Chicago White Sox will be finishing up their MLB set.
In the Tuesday game, we had a high-scoring affair as the Pirates took a 10-6 victory.
For Wednesday’s game, the Pirates will be rolling out RHP Trevor Williams. In his 41.0 innings and 4-2 record this year, Williams has a 2.63 ERA with 26 Ks and 18 BBs.
Heading into this set, the Pirates’ top hitter was Corey Dickerson with 39 hits, 19 runs and 24 RBI. On Tuesday, Dickerson went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run.
Over on the White Sox’ side, they’re going with Reynaldo Lopez on Wednesday. Over his 37.0 innings and 0-2 mark this year, Lopez has a 2.43 ERA with 25 Ks and 17 BBs.
Chicago’s top hitter entering this set was Yolmer Sanchez with 34 hits, 12 runs and 17 RBI. In the Tuesday game, Sanchez put up three hits, two runs and an RBI.
The Pirates are 5-11 in their last 16 Wednesday games and 4-0 in Williams’ last four games with five days’ rest. Pittsburgh is also 2-6 in Williams’ last eight road starts and 1-4 in his last five starts versus a team with a losing record.
Meanwhile, the Sox are 15-36 in the last 51 during game two of a series and 7-20 in their last 27 Wednesday games. The under is 4-1 in the Sox’ last five Wednesday games and the over is 3-0-1 in Lopez’s last four starts.
Williams has been pretty solid overall this year; he’s only allowed more than two earned runs once (three in 5.2 innings his last time out in Washington). Lopez has that same stat too, and gave up four earned in 6.2 innings versus the Twins his last time up. This should be a fun pitching matchup, but I’m leaning toward Williams and the Pirates due to run support and bullpen advantages. The under is probably the way to go, though.
