|Date & Time||Sunday May 20, 2018, 1:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Cincinnati Reds +151 / Chicago Cubs -161 --- Over/Under: 9
Coming up Sunday from Great American Ball Park, the Chicago Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds will be finishing up their weekend MLB series.
The Cubs took Friday’s game, then the Reds got a 5-4 win in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader. In the nightcap, the Cubs dominated 10-0.
For the Sunday game, the Cubs will be bringing out Yu Darvish. In his 34.0 innings and 0-3 record this year, Darvish has a 5.56 ERA with 42 Ks and 18 BBs.
Tops in hitting for the Cubs entering play Saturday was Kris Bryant, with 46 hits, 28 runs and 23 RBI. In the Saturday nightcap, Bryant had a run and an RBI.
As for the Reds, they’re going with RHP Tyler Mahle on Sunday. In his 47.2 innings and 3-5 record this year, Mahle has a 4.34 ERA with 46 Ks and 16 BBs.
Scooter Gennett leads the way for the Reds in hitting with 55 hits, 21 runs and 27 RBI to his name. In the second Saturday game, Gennett went 0-for-3.
The Cubs are 24-9 in their last 34 in game four of a series and 5-2 in their last seven versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The under is 5-0 in the Cubs’ last five game fours of a series and 16-4-3 in their last 23 Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 28-57 in their last 85 Sunday games and 2-5 in Mahle’s last seven starts versus the NL Central. The over is 4-0 in the Reds’ last four Sunday games and 6-2 in their last eight in game four of a series.
Darvish has been pretty unpredictable this year, as he’s had a few good starts mixed in with some real stinkers. As for Mahle, he’s been mostly clean but did give up four earned on seven hits in 3.1 innings his last time out. This one could go either way, but I’m counting on Darvish to put up a good outing and help the Cubbies get a W.
