The Line: Cincinnati Reds -160 / Kansas City Royals +135 --- Over/Under: 8.5
The Kansas City Royals and the Cincinnati Reds will meet up on Tuesday to kick off their MLB set from Great American Ball Park.
Kansas City is coming off a weekend series against the Tigers. The Royals won Friday and Sunday but dropped the other two games to split the series.
For the Tuesday game, the Royals will be going with LHP Eric Skoglund. In his 62.2 innings and 1-5 mark this year, Skoglund has a 5.60 ERA with 45 Ks and 17 BBs.
Leading the charge at the plate for the Royals is Whit Merrifield, who is sitting on 184 hits, 86 runs, 12 homers and 58 RBI. Alex Gordon is back in second on 120 hits, 54 runs, 12 homers and 50 RBI.
Over on the Reds’ side, they’re fresh off a set against the Marlins. Cincinnati won the Thursday game but lost the other three in that series.
Cincinnati will be sending out Matt Harvey for the start on Tuesday. In his 150.0 innings and 7-9 record this year, Harvey has a 4.92 ERA with 125 Ks and 37 BBs.
Cincinnati’s lead hitter is Scooter Gennett, who has 180 hits, 85 runs, 23 homers and 92 RBI. Jose Peraza is also having a nice year on 177 hits, 84 runs, 13 homers and 56 RBI.
The Royals are 5-2 in their last seven following an off day and 23-47 in their last 70 following a win. Kansas City is also 2-5 in their last seven Tuesday games and 2-6 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 4-1 in their last five following an off day and 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games. Cincinnati is also 1-4 in their last five overall and 1-5 in their last six versus a left-handed starter.
Over his last pair of starts, Skoglund has done pretty well. In that time, he’s put up just two earned runs on five hits in 11.0 innings. As for Harvey, he had a nice run of three quality starts going until his last time up when he logged seven earned in 5.1 innings. This should be a pretty good pitching matchup, but I like Harvey to bounce back here so I’ll go Reds.
