|Date & Time||Friday August 8, 2014, 7:10 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Cincinnati Reds -135 / Miami Marlins +125 --- Over/Under: 7.5
The Cincinnati Reds and the Miami Marlins face off on Friday at Great American Ballpark for game one of their series.
The Cincinnati Reds continue to battle to stay in the past season race despite missing Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips. The Reds are 31-25 at home, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and they have won their last three games. As a team the Reds are hitting .244 with Todd Frazier hitting .279, Billy Hamilton hitting .271, and Ryan Ludwick hitting .261. The Reds pitching staff has an ERA of 3.40 with the starters at 3.27 and the bullpen at 3.76. For game one against the Marlins the Reds start Mike Leake who has won his last two starts. For the season Leake has allowed 157 hits and 59 earned runs while striking out 119 over 153.2 innings for a 9-9 record and a 3.46 ERA.
The Miami Marlins haven’t given in on the season as of yet but they are starting to fade. The Marlins are 24-31 on the road, 4-6 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two games. As a team the Marlins are hitting .251 with Casey McGehee hitting .298, Giancarlo Stanton hitting .289, and Adeiny Hechavarria hitting .276. The Marlins pitching staff has an ERA of 4.08 with the starters at 4.08 and the bullpen at 3.47. For game one the Marlins start Nathan Eovaldi who hasn’t won since June. For the season Eovaldi has allowed 145 hits and 67 earned runs while striking out 99 over 143 innings for a 5-6 record and a 4.22 ERA.
Cincinnati is 6-2 in their last eight games, 9-4 in their last 13 Friday games, and 5-1 in Leake’s last six starts as a favorite. Miami is 5-2 in their last seven road games, 2-6 in their last eight games, and 2-8 in Eovaldi’s last eight road starts. Miami is 1-8 in their last nine games against Pittsburgh.
Cincinnati seems to be putting things together and I look for that to continue here as they get the win.
