MLB | New York Mets (17-14) at Cincinnati Reds (8-25)
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

Over at Great American Ball Park on Monday, the New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds will be kicking off their MLB series.

The Mets are coming off a set versus the Rockies this weekend. New York lost the first two games, then on Sunday the sweep was completed with a 3-2 Mets loss.

The Mets will be going with lefty PJ Conlon on Monday. New York was originally going to start Jacob deGrom, but he’s a recent addition to the DL.

Coming out of the week, Asdrubal Cabrera was way out front for New York with 40 hits, 22 runs and 20 RBI. On Sunday, Cabrera posted a hit and an RBI.

Over on the Reds’ side, they just played the Marlins over the weekend. The two teams split the first pair of games, then on Sunday Cincinnati coughed up five runs in the first two innings on the way to an 8-5 loss.

Cincinnati will be wheeling out RHP Homer Bailey for the start on Monday. In his 39.1 innings and 0-4 record this year, Bailey has a 4.81 ERA with 22 Ks and 12 BBs.

Heading into this week, the Reds’ top hitter was Jose Peraza with 38 hits, 19 runs, two homers and 10 RBI. In the Sunday game, Peraza had a hit and a run.

The Mets are 0-6 in their last six overall and 0-4 in their last four versus a right-handed starter. New York is also 0-6 in their last six games on grass and the over is 4-1-1 in their last six road games.

Meanwhile, the Reds are 4-9 in Bailey’s last 13 starts with five days’ rest and 7-20 in his last 27 starts. Cincinnati is also 1-4 in Bailey’s last five Monday starts and 2-12 in his last 14 home starts.

It will be interesting to see what Conlon can do Monday in his big-league debut. As for Bailey, he’s given up nine earned in 10.0 innings over his last two starts. If deGrom were going here, I’d be firmly on the Mets, but I have a little trepidation now with Conlon starting. Still, I’m going to stick with New York, but it might be a good spot for the over.
