The Line: Cincinnati Reds -128 / Pittsburgh Pirates +118 --- Over/Under: 8.5
Over at Great American Ball Park on Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds will be finishing up their MLB series.
In the Tuesday opener, the Reds took a 7-2 win. On Wednesday, Pittsburgh eked out a 5-4 extra-innings win.
For Thursday’s game, the Pirates will be going with RHP Ivan Nova. In his 56.1 innings and 2-4 record this year, Nova has a 4.79 ERA with 43 Ks and eight BBs.
The Pirates’ leading hitter heading into Wednesday was Corey Dickerson with 51 hits, 22 runs and 29 RBI. On Wednesday, Dickerson went 4-for-5 with an RBI.
Over on the Reds’ side, they’re rolling out Luis Castillo on Thursday. Over his 51.1 innings and 3-4 record this year, Castillo has a 5.61 ERA with 50 Ks and 20 walks.
Coming into game two of this set, Scooter Gennett led the Reds on 57 hits, 23 runs and 33 RBI. On Wednesday, Gennett slapped a homer with two runs and two hits.
The Pirates are 4-1 in Nova’s last five starts with five days’ rest and 5-11 in his last 16 starts. Pittsburgh is also 5-14 in Nova’s last 19 road starts and 1-5 in his last six starts versus the NL Central.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 17-35 in their last 52 in game three of a series and 1-7 in their last eight Thursday games. Cincinnati is also 4-1 in Castillo’s last five starts and 7-3 in his last 10 starts with four days’ rest.
Nova had a few rough games going there for a while, but did bounce back with two earned on six hits in 6.0 innings his last time out. As for Castillo, he’s been on a nice run lately and gave up one earned on six hits in 5.0 innings his last start. I’m going to go with Castillo to stay steady here and put the Reds in a position to take the win.
