Cincinnati Reds -115 / Pittsburgh Pirates +105 O/U: 9.5
The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds will continue their MLB series with a matchup on Tuesday.
In the Monday doubleheader of this set, Cincinnati took one 8-1 and the Pirates managed an 8-5 victory to set up an even match Tuesday.
For Tuesday’s game, the Pirates will be sending out Jordan Lyles in the start. Over his 51.1 innings and 5-1 mark this year, Lyles has a 2.81 ERA with 53 Ks and 17 BBs.
Pittsburgh put up eight runs in the nightcap Monday, keyed by a four-run eighth inning. Starling Marte was a very important player in that one with a two-run homer.
Cincinnati will be sending out Lucas Sims in the starting role here. Sims is being recalled from Triple-A Louisville, where he has a 2.37 ERA over his last three games.
In Cincinnati’s 8-1 win on Monday, the team registered 10 hits. two of those belonged to Yasiel Puig, who logged a solo homer with two runs and two RBI.
The Pirates are 6-2 in their last eight Tuesday games and 4-0 in Lyles’ last four road starts. Pittsburgh is 5-0 in Lyles’ last five starts versus a team with a losing record and 5-0 in his last five starts. The over is 4-0 in the Pirates’ last four in game three of a series and the under is 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the under is 4-0 in the Reds’ last four Tuesday games and they’re 5-1 in their last six versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.
Lyles was cruising along nicely earlier this month, with a string of three straight quality starts. In those games, he gave up three earned on 11 hits in 19.2 innings combined.
That said, Lyles ran into some trouble his last time up, allowing six earned on seven hits in 5.2 innings. (Strangely enough, he still got the win in that game thanks to 14 runs scored by the offense.)
Lyles seems pretty solid this year so far, so this doesn’t look like a bad spot to take the Pirates.
